We put a pool in the backyard recently and i am wondering if it would be ok to take my baby in. He will be four months next week. The pool is currently 27 degrees solar heated but this is probably too cold for a baby is it? It will probably get a couple of degrees higher tomorrow being that it is meant to be 38 degrees in melbourne. So what should the temperature be for small babies in pools?

I would. DH took DS2 in our pool before he was 5 weeks old (which was when we moved house). Ours might have been a smidge warmer, but as long as you're not in there for too long, it should be fine.

I live in QLD, but I took my kids into the pool from around 10 weeks old. If it's too cold, they'll let you know. ;-)

Yes, when we lived in FNQ our DD was in the pool when she was a few weeks old. Just keep an eye on him as they can become cold quickly.

I'd also keep "swims" short... A small baby has a large surface area, that's exposing a lot of skin to the chemicals in the pool. Not meaning to sound scary, but start off slow IME.

We took our baby in from 8 weeks for no more than 10 minutes at a time. We are in Far North Qld. He is 14 months now and adores swimming with us but does still get cold if he is in longer than 30 minutes.

Yes I would take my kids in a backyard pool at 4mths. As a PP said, you can tell when try are getting cold!

Personally, if it was a public pool, I would wait till they were 6mths and had their vaccinations.

With a small baby I'd either keep them in a shady bit or smother them in sunscreen rather than using a rashie. I find as soon as the rashie is wet little ones start feeling cold right away.
