Not sure if I should ask this here or in the product review area, or somewhere else completely different. However....

Ice cream makers - can you make Gelato in them even though it doesn't actually say you can? I have no idea what the difference is, so have no clue (it is a present for someone who loves gelato, but the full gelato machines are just out of my price range... she also loves ice cream, so it will be a hit anyway [fingers crossed]).

Thanks!!!

Yes, you can make gelato, sorbet, frozen yogurt, iceceam - what the icecream machine does is churn, which keeps the ice particles small/tiny and therefore gives you the nice mouthfeel.

Hope she likes her pressie original.gif

The main difference between gelato and ice cream is the fat and air ratios. Gelato has more air and less fat.

The machines just churn so you create the base you want and then churn.

my DH got me one for my birthday in Jan, i thought it was a waste of money and we would use it once then it would go in the cupboard.
it never made it to the cupboard the first few months, we were using it every couple of days (DH loves icecream), it did get retired a bit over winter but i've been thinking up new flavour combos the last few days and i'll be bringing it out on the weekend
