I am currently in the process of buying a second hand (2002) tarago and am in need of urgent advice! The car has been imported from Japan and has 2 anchor points on the rear seats and isofix adapters in all rear and middle seats. The guy selling the car is trying to tell me I can get some kind of adapter for the isofix to be able to attach an Australian car seat, and that it is legal. I think this is total bull! Obviously if it is at all illegal or dangerous I won't be buying the car- but otherwise it is a reeeeaaally good car so I'm kind of hoping that he isn't talking rubbish. Can anyone point me in the right direction to some info on this so I can go there tomorrow armed with my facts?TIA

Yes it is bull.

Isofix are lower anchorage points used instead of a lap sash seatbelt. The top tether point is completely a separate issue.

You may be able to get an anchor point installed but it could be an engineering modification to your car )if it is possible) and be up to $2k in costs.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I haven't actually seen the car yet (my father has been looking for me- car hunting with 4 kids sucks butt!) so I'm not certain that is what is in the car, but it sounds like it. Is it then legal for me to get extra anchor points put in? I was told yes by racq but then when I called the people who supposedly do it they told me it legally had to be done prior to importation?! I'm so confused!

the 2002 Tarago (aussie) has three anchors in the middle row and none in the rear, they are just holes with bolts in the back of the seats and you need to attach an anchor bolt to them. They are half way up the back of the seat and look like a screw thread hole. most people do not know they are there. Maybe you could look at the car and see if they are there in this model just not being used.

It also has two isofix points in the middle row on both outside seating postions. this is not yet legal in australia.

you can also add a crab bar to the rear seat that woud give you three anchor points, depending which state you are in
