Hi,

Looking for tips for transitioning a 1 year old for the 3 hour time difference between Sydney and Perth at Christmas.

It wasn't an issue when we went to Samoa earlier in the year as it meant without changing his sleep times he was up later and to bed later. That was quite freeing as we could comfortably sit out and have dinner before he needed to go to bed.

Perth means instead of getting up at 6am it will be 3am sad.gif

Do you just go with the flow or actively try to shift their bedtime? We are there for a week only....

I havent done it but will next year. I would try to change your DS's sleep time to at least half of that time difference in the week prior to your departure. That's what I plan to do when the time comes - particularly if its during daylight savings.

Whenever we travel across time zones, I try not to let the children sleep too much on the journey, then from day 1, our evening routine is the same as at home. We try not to go out at night in the first couple of days until they are acclimatised. Don't work yourself into a tizzy trying to do it before you leave.

We don't travel interstate as much as we did when the children were younger, but we would also take turns to get up with the children if they got up early, or if we were staying with my parents, they would get up sometimes.

We're going to travel from Auckland to Perth which is a five hour time difference. We just go with the flow. This will be the sixth or seventh time we have dne this trip with children and have worked out that trying to trick them to sleep later just doesnt work.

They only take a day or so to change time zones so if they do wake up, just try to keep them up till their normal day sleep time then follow their normal routines. Good luck!
