Hi all, I am an absolute novice with this & don't even have a smart phone at the moment.

I am a bit seduced by the Instagram images I've seen, and basically just wanted to find out more about it - especially about privacy. I'm not interested in strangers being able to see the photos - do the HAVE to be 'stored' on the Instagram site? Is there a way of storing them with absolute privacy? Can you just save them on your own computer?

I am more interested in maybe making a little book out of the images as I've seen done on the website, but am worried about pics of my kidlets floating around the net for all and sundry to see, forever.

I have nothing to do with facebook or twitter or the like and am pretty paranoid about it all I guess.
But I do love those Instagram effects.

Would love to have someone educate me about how Instagram works.....Thanks!

There is a privacy setting. They store on your phone as well as the app so you can delete them from the page without loosing them.

If you want photos to print don't bother the resolution is too low. Just use your camera and photoshop.

Even people who do not use Instagram could find themselves in an ad for the popular social media tool, if a friend snaps a picture of them and shares it.

I heard on the radio news this morning that come January 16 or 19 can't remember, facebook can use your instagram pics in advertising without your permission, so I deactivated my account today. Not worth the risk IMO.

Yes you can use instagram that way and there are also a number of phones apps that add nice effects to iphone photos. I would probably skip the instagram step if you are worried about privacy and use a mix of phone apps to create similar effects. I'd recommend Camera+, Sw**koLab, PhotoStudio, Hipstamatic and PhotoWizard for a start.

Oh lord, the crap people are speading about Instagram at the moment.

Anything you put on the internet via Instagram or any other means is there forever for pretty much anyone to see. Instagram have changed a few things but they aren't going to suddenly start selling your images to all and sundry. Currently they can use your images anyway so it isn't really any different. So many people are freaking out for no reason, most peoples images aren't anywhere near advertising standards

Instagram is really just a social media photo album with funky filters. If you don't want your images online, get a photo processing program that isn't online based.

I am a huge fan of flickr (the website site), I have been meaning to get the app, it completely slipped my mind, thanks.

I rarely use instagram (I think because I do love flickr already and facebook on my phone has camera effects so I can share fun photos with friends).
