A little over a year ago I sustained a concussion and as part of that had partial seizures. They lasted a couple of days. The first symptom that appeared was a painless contraction of my 2nd toe sideways. When I recovered, the toe thing would still recur every so often, maybe once every few months. In the last couple of weeks it has suddenly ramped up so now it happens multiple times an hour, several times every day. It even wakes me up sometimes, it's not uncomfortable, just weird feeling my toe move strangely that way. I can't work out whether it is of concern or whether it is just one if those weird things like an eye twitch. I had an MRI at the time which showed nothing. I feel silly being worried but I'm probably averaging around 50 contractions an hour, maybe more? I feel silly going to a Dr about it though. So WDYT?

If this only started occurring after your concussion, I would most definitely be seeing the GP. In my experience, GP's would rather you "wasted their time" when something is harmless than you "not waste their time" when it is something far more serious.

Good luck, OP.

Yes, what PP said. Go see your GP, it needs looking at again as the condition has worsened.

who knows, but maybe not a gp, maybe a podiatrist or chiropractor?

Thanks for your replies. Jemmy win - ironically I trained as a podiatrist and never came across this issue before! Maybe I should see someone about it...

ETA I just counted the contractions - 20 in one minute....

Hi, if the toe movement was associated with seizures and is suddenly increasing that rapidly I would probably seek urgent medical advice. I am a very cautious type but that's what I would do.

If it was one of the earliest symptoms after the initial seizures then the same brain activity that made it appear has reappeared for some reason.

I would suggest you go see your GP as soon as possible. At the very least, it will give you some reassurance if the GP investigates and finds it to be just an annoying but harmless side effect.

I would get to a GP post haste and get a referral to a neurologist, you need to rule out any electrical imbalances in the brain. Partial seizures are nothing to be fobbed off. This painful contractions may just be the gatekeeper of something more serious going on in the brain.
Don't let a gp fob you off either. Concussions are a serious condition and you may have an unknown brain injury as a result. I would get a full battery of tests to rule out anything and everything. I am an advocate for knowing everything about your body and investigating things that just don't sit right. You have a right to know what is happening with your body, don't be afraid to get the help you need.
