Hi, sorry this is yet another potential gift WDYT....has anyone purchased a Skim Disk for their kids? It's like a giant disk which they sit on and hold onto and they get towed....for the beach etc....
I was thinking of getting one..we have a week in Jan at the beach, it's a non surf beach so I thought DS (6) would have fun on it...a grown up pulls you along in shallow water (we are talking the shore line...not deep water)...my plan is that hubby would do the towing ...not me! I mentioned it to one of the mums at school and she pulled a face and said "yeh if you want to spend the rest of your holidays visiting him in hospital" ....they don't seem that dangerous to me? I did a quick google search and there are no immediate recall notices or anything that indicates they have been to blame for numerous injuries...the mother in question had to run off (to save her toddler from falling off a monkey bar funnily enough!) so I never got to ask what she had against them.... Any thoughts would be welcome - thanks! |

I haven't bought one but thought about getting one ourselves. No reason why I didn't end up getting one. I just decided to get other things for the girls this year.
I don't understand how they would be dangerous? Exhausting if you end up being the one to pull them all though but a good workout. |

I think they are safe enough so long as you are using them in the correct way. They are quite fun really!
When I was in high school a boy in my class was being towed by a car using his and fell off and broke his leg in 2 places and spent an entire year in a cast. |

I've seen a lot of these on the beach lately & to me they look like a lot of fun & a great way to stay fit!
So long as the kids stay's seated I can't see too many issues, yes they may fall off, but I don't see how it's any worse thn being dumpoed by a wave. DH & I bought BIL one of the skim disks that you used to run & jump onto in the shallows, now those are dangerous. I thought there may have been a broken arm or 3 by the time they were done. |

Yes, that type would scare me! Maybe she is just one of those people that thinks some things can lead to broken bones? Like rollerskates etc. I think if it's going to happen then it will and better to have fun and live life (following all safety rules though of course) rather than worry what if. Things can happen doing anything. DD#1 has been doing gymnastics for years. She's had falls, bumps and bruises but never any broken bones. Until one day they had their christmas party and she fell while walking (no gymnastics involved at all) and broke her arm in 2 places. I'm finished my christmas shopping but now I feel like getting one. LOL This post has been edited by mumto3princesses: 06/12/2012, 04:39 PM |
