I've finally started doing my christmas shopping and I'd really like to get my 8.5yr old niece a book. She has an older sidling so I know that they already have Charlottes Web, the Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, most of Roald Daryls work and the babysitters club series.

I would really love to get her a recent release which is suitable for her age range.

What would you suggest?

Also, I noticed a book called The Templeton Twins on book repository and was wondering if this was in the right age bracket.

TIA

My oldest DD loves to read the "Fairy" series - she is not into fairies but that have like animal farries and water, magic and rainbow series and many many more so I can keep buying them.

I am sure you will recognise the overs:

When DD was 8 she was a great fan of the Deltora books by Emily Rodda.

In fact she lived and breathed the characters 24/7.

I second the Our Australian Girl books - they are sets of 4 books, each set about a girl sometime in Australia's history.

Big hit with my just turned 9 yr old is EJ12. Hugely popular with her and her friends.
