DD has been complaining of hand pain recently. It's very intermittent and comes on at very "convenient" times if you get my drift. I don't want to disbelieve her if she's genuinely in pain, so I will suck it up and take her to the GP if she's still complaining tomorrow because it's getting ridiculous now.

She says she hasn't hurt it, or banged it on anything etc. Any ideas?

Bella's hands have given her pain, especially in the mornings since she was around 4yo. I have never found a GP willing to investigate it. It tends to ease as the day progresses.

Does she say where? I get pain in my hands basically in the fleshy party of the palm near the thumb. It gets very sore in the muscle there. It's not in the joint and doesn't prevent me from gripping things or using my hansd. It's like it has been cramped or something. It's especially common for me in winter. I can't explain it.

I had terrible pencil grip, and would often get a crampy feeling in my hand.


i would investigate strengthening exercises, and possibly some grip assisters.

Does she have any problems with handwriting. An OT could assess her hands to see if there is any grip or muscle tone issues.
DD has significant problems with speed but is actually very neat and didn't complain of pain as she was so used to it so it was missed in the classroom that she had a poor grip

tennis elbow?can you get that when ur young? i have it in both arms and if a nerve is pinching in my elbow/shoulder my hands suffer. when i was pg with ds it got so bad that if i slept on that side the circulation would cut off to a point where i would wake up to my hand feeling huge, numb, white and cold to touch. i know that's probably more extreme than what your daughter's facing ( but not to undermine her condition)... but just throwing it out there as a possibility.hope you get some answers op.

I have RA and hand pains are certainly my most common symptom. I hope for your DD's sake it isn't juvenile arthritis, but best to make sure and get your GP to do a thorough blood test.

Might just turn out to be growing pains, or RSI... no one can say for certain, but I wouldn't ignore it.

I know I have to give her the benefit of the doubt because I'd feel like the worlds worst parent if it were something serious, I'm just finding it very hard!
