We've got an unexpected month off and have all of January to holiday. Where to go?
-We have an anaphylactic and asthmatic 4yo so anywhere too remote or third world is out. Ideally we'd be within half an hour of a decent hospital. It's a shame but that's our reality... -Is the Northern Hemisphere really too cold? I'm thinking southern Italy or Spain, but would it be better to spend the money on that sort of a holiday in summer? -Thailand? But would that get dull after a month? I don't want to be stuck in a resort. Please hit me with your best holiday ideas for January!! |

I think Italy or spain would be great. The southern parts of the USA would also be fantastic. You will have to pay top dollar for airfares since you would be going in early January.

I'd definitely skip Thailiand and Indonesia as unfortunately tons of their meals are cooked in peanut oil even if they don't contain nuts and its just too risky even when you're clear before ordering food with the language barriers etc.
Plus even though there are lots of great hospitals there I'd opt for somewhere more Westernised with your needs. We're looking at Hawaii in January, even though its their winter it's still average temp of 27-28 degrees. There are a lot of deals at the moment for LA & Hawaii or LA with Fiji on the way home. California, Napa valley, Vegas, Grand Canyon, San Francisco etc. tons to see and do in those areas - you could even road trip part of it. If you're thinking Europe I'd be prepared for cold - Spain & Italy: expect snow! But you could go for a ski trip? Swiss alps would be pretty cool. |

Europe. It will be cold, but so much to see. Closer to home is good for times when you don't have a month!

Hi, its hard to make a recommendation without knowing what you like to do. But both Italy and Spain are fantastic places to go. Southern Italy and Spain arent super warm that time of year but still about 15 or 16 degrees. What kind of things interest you and your family?

You could do a driving holiday of North and South New Zealand?
Paris (inc Disneyland) and one other country nearby? Hawaii and LA to take the 4 year old to Disney? UK? Canada? |
