 Bread making people, Please explain this to me |

I have just followed a simple recipe for making white bread (yes eek!!) in a loaf tin in the oven. After I proofed it etc and just before putting it into the tin, the recipe said to divide it into two portions and lie them side by side in the tin before putting into the oven. I was wondering why? Why can't I just put it in the tin in one sausage shape?

You can. The 2 pieces gives the pretty loaf look where you can break it in two small loaves like on the old tv advertisement.
If you do one long piece, remember to slash the top so the crust doest 'erupt' as it rises. |

Ok I see. It came out well just that it looks like two rolls stuck together! I never noticed that "look" before. Next time ill try one long sausage and slash it. We did a sourdough this morning on a Pizza stone and it also came out well. Thanks for the reply.
