wondering whether its worth it to splurge on a decent pair of sunglasses. I had a pair of ray-bans I found at an op shop and they lasted ages, until DD pulled them apart yesterday

Normally I just get the $30 polaroid ones as Im too scared I will lose expensive ones.

Also any recommendations for quality brands, and good sites to buy sunnies from?

I've always bought expensive sunglasses and just made sure that I've taken care of them, the same way I would look after my iPhone.
I dont think I would ever buy some online though - only that if you're going to spend big $$ I'd rather make sure they suited me first, plus, some Optometrists offer laybuy which can help to.
I bought my last pair (circa 3 years ago) from an Optometrist.
My two DD's (aged 11 and 13) have cheap sunnies and I dont find them anywhere near as clear to look through - not that I have sight in mine at all but I do think mine offer much clearer vision which I prefer for driving.

I usually find a pair that suit me, find out the names and codes etc, and buy online. So much cheaper!
I have ray-bans at the moment, and I don't think I like them that much, though its probably more coz they are so big and just kinda fall off my face if I don't keep my face up LOL. I need to get them made smaller.

Anyway, I mostly go for expensive/brand name, and just look after them (especially because I get prescription lenses put in them so they cost extra on top of the frames) really well.

My oroton sunglasses make me all sorts of happy. I would wait til post christmas though. I got mine in january at david jones for $106 down from $265.

Sure, if your kids aren't obsessed with your sunglasses.

Then again, because I know my sunnies are $30 cheapies I let DD play with them and naturally they break.
Thinking about it at the rate I let DD break my sunglasses I could have bought 1 nice expensive pair. Doubt I'd let her even touch them if they were over $50

There is an Australian standard for lenses in sunglasses so any reputable retailer will be selling perfectly good sunglasses at a variety of price points.

I hadn't had expensive sunnies for years.

DP gave me some RayBans for my birthday and they are SO much nicer to look through, they also don't scratch when I drop them (a frequent happening).

He got them online for a good price.

Definitely. Although I wear prescription sunglasses as well as regular glasses so I don't really have a choice.

I never let my kids play with them, I am religious about keeping them in the case or on my face! Hence my last pair of expensive ones lasted me 17 years
