I have a 3yo and another one on the way, and am slightly sick and tired of my hatchback, esp the stooping down. Kills my back. My chiro said getting a higher car helped.. Is this true, can anyone recommend the brand of car they drive?

I was considering a higher up Toyota or Hyundai but open to all brands. Does this mean I need to be looking at SUVs? I always wanted to avoid being one of those annoying awful SUV driving parents but maybe I have to for the sake of my back!! Anyone drive a RAV or Honda SUV an recommend it??

My Honda Jazz was reasonably high.

My Citroen C4 Picasso is also good.

Nissan Dualis may give you the height without too much bulk.

Honda CRV is OK too.

the one thing to remember is that even though the car might be higher for your back, you will probably spend more time lifting kids/prams into the car as well. something to keep in mind when looking as well i think.

off the topic...

if you have a bad back, look at getting an "infa secure turn a tot " car seat - it turns around so you can put bubs in withough straining your back...

i have 2 slipped discs.... and on bad days find higher cars are worse on my back.....

I have the new Mazda CX 5. Love it. Much better and more roomier than the Mazda 3 I had before. I find it easier on my back when putting both kids into their car seats.

We have recently bought a Suzuki SX4 (I am a little bit in love with it so please feel free to ignore my advice as the ramblings of a besotted fool)

Our criteria was a car that was economical and nice to drive with room to fit 6'4" DP, 5'6" me and to be able to get my very frail 6' Dad in and out easily.

The Suzuki has adjustable seats UP and DOWN as well as forward and back - nice big doors (Dad doesn't bump his head like he does on my sister's Falcon) and quite a high driving position. It is certainly far higher up from the ground - seats, boot, et. al. - than my old Daihatsu hatchback.

There is room in the back seat for adults (DP can sit comfortably there) and it is still a hatchback so no Toorak tractor shame!

DP spends 3 hours a day in it driving to work and back and has no complaints at all about comfort (he has a dodgy back)

Have a look at them OP - IMO they are great.

Wee have a commodore and now have a Citroen,I am surprised how much higher the Citroen is even though it is still a small, hatch type car.

My Corolla is quite high, but I also found DH's x-trail pretty good for getting a kid out of a carseat (babysitting DN).

BIL & SIL have a Dualis, which is also quite high off the ground, but not as high up as some of the 4wd.

Are you me? I just swapped a 3 for a CX5 and I love it! It took DD a bit to work out how to climb in but she's got it now so no lifting. Plus it's so much easier getting the pram out of the boot.
