hi
we will be spending from the 19th August until the end of October in Italy. I know it will be hot and Summer for some of it so I am asking for advice as I have not been to Italy for 10 years. Where would you go in the hot section of our trip? And any other information or suggestion would be very welcome! Thanks C PS: would you spend a month in Florence with a 3 and 6 yo? PPS: we will hire a car when we are out of the cities. |

Hi!
We just spent a few weeks in Italy in October. So the hot part I'm not so sure about - I've been to Italy 3 times now and always in shoulder season... I would be thinking somewhere on the coast though - perhaps if you started up north and ended up down south so when the warmer weather starts fading you'll be chasing the sun?? I personally would struggle with a month in Florence, regardless of the kids ages....Have you been to Florence before?? For this trip, we loved Turin. But stayed in a place near Asti. I think it could be a stifling when its hot there though, for Autumn it was stunning. We also stayed in a place called Borla which is kinda near parma. Think rolling hills filled with vineyards and castles everywhere you turn. With the bonus of not being completely over-run with tourists like Florence/Tuscany. Of course we were tourists and there is definately tourism there - it is far too beautiful for there not to be. But nowhere near the scale in Florence and surrounds.... The other spots that spring to mind is Sicily - you could always do a weekend trip to Malta on the ferry...You could go via Naples (totally mad but very alive city from memory). Tacking on a trip to Pompeii and Isle of Capri easily done as day trips (from naples).... Very jealous of your trip |
