Please don't quote my post or any of my replies, as I may delete in the future.

DD is 13.5, she has still has not started her period, she appears to be developing normally, but at a slower rate than her peers, and also her younger sister.

DD has always met her 'bodily' milestones (for want of another description) late, at the later end of her age.

If or when should it be a concern?

If a child develops late all her/his life is this in the range of normal?

If she usually develops late I suspect this is the same. 13.5 isn't really late for getting a period, some girls are lucky and don't get it unitl they are 15!

Is she heavily into sport?

I was 15 when I got mine, however I was a gymnast & increadibly petite at the time.

Maybe ask your GP.

No, but that is why I am asking, I would describe her figure as the opposite of what you have described.

I suppose, as I don't really have anyone to ask IRL, I am wanting reassurance that she is still 'normal'.

Pinksmurf, thankyou, that is reassuring, Blunomi, I do know that she 'doesn't' consider herself lucky, she just wants to be like all her friends, and she will be beside herself if your sister starts before she does, it is something that I have to consider and be mentally prepared for. DD1 is much more competitive that DD2.

It might not hurt to head to the GP - or do you have a women's health clinic nearby, tas they might be better.

I only say that because I recall one of my firends being diagnosed with PCOS at 16 because she hadn't had a period & was not a petite kind of girl ,it took 3 GP's before she found the one who sent her off for the right tests.

I wouldn't be concerned yet but if she is then there is no harm to take her to the GP and have a discussion about it.

I was just under 13.5 when I got mine, I was about middle of the pack in my group of friends and there were 2 girls in my year level that I know of that were well over 15 before they started.

She certainly isn't abnormal but may be feeling worried about it because of the trend of girls developing younger these days.

Another late bloomer here. I was 16 when I got my first period and I think my sister was around 15.

I was told to look at when your mother, aunties, sisters, started their periods and that can give you a clue as to when your child might start hers.

I got mine when I was 15, yet I was very tall and wearing a bra at 13.
