We are due with no 3 and DP and I were having this discussion the other day. With DD, she was the first one allowed to hold her little brother when she came to the hospital, but now, we weren't sure if there was a natural family hierarchy or not.... does DD (8) get to hold bub first or does DS (4) get to?

There is already a whiff of competition in the air with SILs new bubba (apparently she loves each cousin "more" laughing2.gif ), so I'm just putting it out there to see what others did. We were very aware of making it special for DD to include her last time around, and I kind of felt it would be good to let DS have that too this time around.... probably overthinking the whole thing laughing2.gif

over thinking. What happens happens and it will all be good. As for competition babies love every brother and sister the same.

I can't remember which one of the terrible twosome held the little witch first!

Whoever asks first I guess! our kids both reacted very differently to seeing their new baby sister for the first time, so we went with what was happening at the time.

My DD2 did, with Nana's help. Not planned, she was standing next to Nana when Nana had her first cuddle. They'd both had lots of time to greet first as DD3 was asleep in her hospital bassinet when they arrived.

Both my girls gave presents and were given presents - that helped them bond too....and defered any competition about holding (there was none here). And lots of time for the first visit helped.

Lol. We never even thought about it. I guess it was who was there at the time. I couldn't even tell you which sibling was first to hold bub. Depending on circumstances, school, babysitting that day, certain sibs may have seen bub before the other. There was no competition.

For those that are saying the child who asks first.... laughing2.gif they will probably both ask at the same time wink.gif if they don't then we don't have to worry about it and will just go with the flow biggrin.gif
