I have been asked by a few people with large families to let them know of our experience taking 7 young children on a cruise as they were considering it also.
We have just returned from a 9 day cruise to New Caledonia and all I can say is our next big holiday will be a cruise holiday! We have been on various holidays over the past 11 years and this was by far the best one so far.
It was very cost effective, we paid one price and all our meals, accommodation, travel, entertainment was included. There were additional extras we bought, but there were a couple of days where we didn't spend a cent. On average we spent an extra $90 a day and that was mainly on souvenirs, photos, shore tours and drinks.
Never a dull moment, we were either relaxing, being entertained or exploring this islands. The kids club kept the kids happy and meant me and DH could have some time out as well.
It was by far the easiest holiday as well. We unpacked all our stuff into the cabin and apart from doing our laundry, everything else was done for us. Our cabin steward cleaned our room for us twice a day, we even had our blankets pulled back for us before bedtime and every single meal was cooked for us. The staff were all friendly and loved kids.
My husband had been concerned that you only got such a short amount of time to see the country, however I found the time we had was enough and even he agrees. The Islands we went to were great to visit, but not somewhere you would want to spend a week to look around.
Usually the kids get a bit tired and fustrated towards the end of our holidays and are glad to go home, however this time they were begging to stay and had made plans to hide in a cupboard when it was time to go. lol
