Hi Hannabug,

I went walking tonight to look at Christmas lights and noticed two houses in my street have above ground pools. Decent size ones not toddler wading types. One in the front yard and the other was down in their back yard but easily seen from the front side of their house.

I am wondering what the laws are in relation to fencing above ground pools. I tried looking on the web but there is so much information out there I thought it might be easiest to go directly to someone very involved in this area.

For your reference I am in QLD.

I will ring my local council as soon as I get a chance but it is on my mind at the moment.

There was a story on the news just this last week and I'm pretty sure that if the pool, including inflatables, is more than 30cm deep it must be properly fenced.

According to the government website I looked up last week, the aboveground pools only need to be fenced completely if they have sides less than 1.2 metres or toehold grips in the sides - other than that, they need their ladder fenced off.

I'd still call your local council though, because there may be updated rules that I didn't find as I was looking for the inground pool fencing rules.
