I buy books for my kids over the year and give them many through the year and put some away for xmas. I just realised I have 16 books to put in my DS 5YO santa stocking LOL..do you think he will think santa has gone nuts??

He does love books, but is 16 going overboard?? For example I bought books on the following topics- garages/cars, diggers, Franklin stories, Flat Stanley, Dogs, Our Earth, Day at school ect...

(He does have a present - a ute and a skateboard and knee pads, wrapped seperately).

I strongly believe that kids can never have too many books. I think your little one is very lucky!

I don't know... for me, part of the fun of Christmas is going a little overboard with presents so I would probably give him all the books! biggrin.gif

I would say it's too many. Not from any anti-consumerist or ideological standpoint. Simply from personal experience that when you give them too many things they get a bit disconnected from it all and are over the whole thing before they've finished opening all their presents.

Only once did I go overboard. I ended up buying a whole bunch of little things and the kids ended up with present fatigue halfway through opening it all. I learnt then that it's better to give less and have it more appreciated. Anything up to about 10 presents seems to be the limit here.

Although I do agree that you can never have too many books. You just don't need to get them all at once. laughing2.gif

That would be too many for my kids stockings, not because I don't like them getting books (they get 2-4 usually) but I fill the stocking with so many other things I would never fit it all in.

Mummy to 4 Blessings and 1 Angel.
Santa only gives a couple books at most. usually Mr men sized books because of all the other things.

I'm a reader and like taking credit for finding books for my kids that they love though wink.gif

I'd put some away personally. though I get awfully tempted when they're in my cupboard especially when they're sick. blush.gif

I would save some for those 'rainy days'.....car trips, plane flight, birthday, sick, 40degree heatwave and bored mindless.

But yes, you can never have too many books as a reader. I asked for a kindle for my birthday and got some stupid tennis hit net. I am bitter as I sit bored every night watching cr&p on TV. If that kindle doesnt front up for Christmas there will be hell to pay!!! Or I will go out and buy one on boxing day with DH's credit card!

Only a ginger can call a ginger a ginger!
I loaded up with books when the book shops closed down and have been looking for excuses to give some to DD1. Last month my sister, who lives interstate, asked what she could get the girls for Christmas. I suggested I pick out some books from the stash and we can say they are from her. She will send some money down to pay for them, but I'll just put it in the girls money boxes. Win win for everyone! Do you have any relatives who would like to give some books OP?

Eta my sister loved this idea as she doesn't have to battle the crowds at shops, she can't afford to spend a lot and didn't want to get the girls cheap plastic stuff, she doesn't have to spend forever and a day at the post office trying to post the presents, and she's a bit of a greenie so it's a good use of existing resources biggrin.gif
