for Christmas lunch we will be having 10 adults and 6 kids and doing the full roast dinner and veg.
which way of service do you prefer a. all plates dished up by me and then placed in the table at everyone's spot b. all dishes on the table for everyone to help themselves c. create a buffet along the kitchen bench so people can serve themselves. or is there an option I am not thinking of? |

Another vote for C...definitely not A.
B depends on the size of your table as there is something festive about passing dishes around to each other...less practical though |

c or c
I dont think there is any other option, unless you could have a table in another room? or main bits on the kitchen bench, and condiments and breadrolls on the table (if you have them) |

If you have a big enough table then B is nice, and also makes it easier when people want seconds etc. If it would make the table crowded though, definitely go C.
We generally have meat and roast potatoes served from a benchtop buffet, then all the other side dishes (veggies, salad, bread etc) on the table. Do not do A. It will be a nightmare as not everyone will want some of everything and some people will eat more than others etc. Also, by the time you finish dishing all that up there is the potential for food to have gone cold. It will move a lot faster if everyone can serve themselves and there will be a minimum of fuss. |

Def C. I hate being about to SEE yummy food further down the table but not be able to get it on my plate, immediately, right now!

Usually do C at all our Christmas get togethers. For my small Christmas Eve one this year I'll be doing B.
I don't like other people dishing up my food much. They always give me tons of the bits I don't like and hardly any of the yummy stuff, like potatoes. And never enough gravy. I love me some gravy.. |
