Do you like to receive an invite to an event (wedding, birthday party etc) even if the host already knows you will not be able to come?
Or do you send an invite to someone even if you already know they cannot come?

Yes, I do.

Can't offer why, just seems the right thing to do.

My Mum was from OS and we always sent invitations to big events to the OS family and they to us. It was understood that no-one was going to attend but it made us feel like we were a part of things.

Although once my Mum happened to open an invitation on the same morning as she opened a letter that told her an investment had matured! So she did a very spontaneous bit of airline booking!

Grandma and Grandad sure got a lovely surprise at that anniversary party!

Even if you invite potential non attenders it may be that your event might be the one that they would like to come to the most. I believe by inviting them that they feel wanted and needed and it is nice to be thought of even if you can not make it.

For close friends and family I do still send an invite.
Personally it doesn't bother me if I don't receive one.
