HI my 5yr old DS got some early xmas pressies during the week of 3 small lego sets. This is his first lot of lego.
How do you store your lego? Do you just put it all together? Or each set separate? Or each theme seperate? What do you do with the instructions?
No idea of the best way to go about it so any help appreiciated:)
TIA

just to scare you... this is what your Lego collection will look like in a few years (this is our garage):

Instructions you can put in a ring binder to keep them safe if you want to use them later (although Lego instructions are online).

For storage, it would depend on how the child wants to play with it, if they specifically want to keep the sets for play, I would just put them on a shelf, If they are looking to always build something new, I would just put it in some tubs to start with.

DS is 5 he has 2 lego heads, 1 small one (for leggo people), 1 large one for sorting pieces, then a whole heap of plastic containers (sorted into wheels, trees, lights etc) which all stack in a bigger container.

I hate leggo!

We have used the Trofast shelf from IKEA, with 12 drawers. It's BARELY enough for our stuff, stored by colour. Children have some permanently set up as well. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/S29872993/

The instruction booklets are in a display folder on top of the shelf.

If you have the patience, make sure you keep the books. I have sbeen selling some of my son's Lego on Ebay and if you are selling an actual set as opposed to kilograms of it, you can get really good prices for it.

Depending on the items.

We have some general Lego boxes.

We use Sistema klip it boxes for larger sets including instructions).

Some sets we put in large sandwich bags and then back into the boxes.

We keep ours separate by theme.

Lego general and Lego city together.
Lego airport.
Lego creator ( although the small sets are in general boxes now)
Lego kingdoms
Lego Star Wars
Lego alien invasion
Lego dinosaur
Lego ninjago
Lego Christmas

They are from bunnings, and they do take a huge amount of weight.

I also have the matching workbench for making stop motion pieces

Because it is our garage, they didn't need to look pretty, we just needed strong and functional.
