I have always had problems with these, they never seem to work properly for me.

My DD got an InnoTab yesterday, and has managed to chew through a pack of Ultra Lithium batteries already, so clearly, i need to invest in some good rechargeable batteries, cause i cannot afford $20 every 2 days, lol.

So, what are the best ones to buy, and why?

We've always used the Kodak or the Aldi brand ones. I'm not sure if the Kodak ones are still getting made as my last purchase of Kodak brand rechargeable was five years ago. Kodak was the only brand that would last more than a couple of photos in my first digital camera.

We buy the Aldi ones now, they're not as good as the Kodak ones but switched because they were cheaper and easier to find.

I have never found rechargable batteries to last very long. I gave up on them. The best disposable ones I have found is just the regular duracell.

I've used Varta for about 7 years in my camera, including through several overseas trips. I think they still sell them at KMart.

We have various brands, just bought from the supermarket.
The best thing to do is to teach your kids to recharge themselves.
From age four we have given DS three screwdrivers and a battery charger and taught him what to do.
1. turn power off
2. plug charger in
3. put batteries in
4. turn power on
5. wait til charged
6. turn power off
7. take batteries out and put into device
He has some devices that are hard to unsrcrew so we give him a hand, but the motivation is strong to get his devices going again so he is happy to put a lot of effort in to go through the process!

Sanyo eneloop are by far the best. They even hold their charge whilst sitting inthe drawer waiting to be used.

I grew up using Tandy rechargeable batteries in things like remote control cars and walkmans. Those batteries lasted for about 15 years before I decided to replace them.

I replaced them with D*ck Smith rechargeable batteries and battery charger. I've got no complaints about them and they work well in DD's toys and other things. I use Varta in our digital camera and I find that they perform well.

At least these days rechargeable batteries don't tend to have "memory effect" when you had to fully discharge a battery to get it to fully recharge again.

Remember that rechargeable batteries will lose their charge after a few months whether you use them or not. That's just the way they are. For that reason I haven't found them to be very good in torches that tend to sit around and are rarely used.

For a high drain device like your DD's Innotab you will need a battery that is suited to that purpose. Generally the higher the mAh, the better for a high drain device. The Varta ones that I use in my camera are 2500mAh, and the D*ck Smith ones are 2200mAh. Some batteries can be as low as 1900mAh I think.

Depending on how patient your DD is or how organised you are you will probably need to buy 2 sets of batteries so you can have one lot in use and the others being charged when the others are about to go flat. My batteries take 14 to 16 hours to recharge. That can be a looong time for a child! Otherwise get the ones that quick charge in 15 minutes. That way you can probably get away with just one set of batteries and distract your DD with a snack while they charge.

I have just Energizer ones and find them great. They are in devices all over the house adn as far as I know, none have been thrown out as yet. Have been using some for years. I just bought 8 more before Chrissy.

Sanyo Eneloop are the best!
