My husband has been offered a position in Brisbane which is wonderful but now I am confused with schooling. I had everything sorted for where we live now and I am worried that I may if left enrolments to late for prep in 2014.
There is no restrictions in where the school is located as we can live anywhere in Brisbane. I do really like the Montessori style of education and am neither her nor there about public vs private or costs. I am Lutheran and so I would say the only restriction would be catholic schools as I don't know if they take no Catholics. Size doesn't matter although I would live to find a great small school but I am open for either. All I really want is a good academic school that has a great arts program (daughter not really sporty although she is only young) My dream school would be http://cottageschool.tas.edu.au/about/philosophy But it is in Tasmania so not really an option So if anyone wants to recommend me their school for me to check out I would be so greatful! Sorry for any typos on my iPhone This post has been edited by Fire_fly: 27/12/2012, 05:30 PM |

There is Montessori public at grovely. I have friends with children there and they are very happy. I believe there is a charge $500??? To pay for the equipment etc. prince of peace Lutheran is at Everton hills, I've heard good reports whether they have places or not, I'm not sure. And we are happy with our school ferny hills, it's small about 400 students.

I went to St Peter's Lutheran College in Indooroopilly, which is in western Brisbane. It now has a spin-off campus in Springfield. It takes kids from prep up to year 12. It has a wonderful arts programme and a wonderful music programme and a very good university entrance rate. It has a long waiting list, but if you're Lutheran that should get you in. I'm sure there's a website.

thanks Cupcakemumma and Cath42 I will research all of those. There is just so many schools compared to where we are now. So to get some suggestions helps me to know where to start.

Sacred Heart School Sandgate is a beautiful Catholic school in Brisbane's northeast bayside. It's Catholic but I know they take non- Catholic kids (as my DD isn't Catholic!) lol! It's a beautiful small school. Early years has sting play-based learning approach. 25 minutes from Brisbane CBD, and Sandgate, Shorncliffe,Brighton all border Moreton Bay

St Peter's now has 2100 kids, but that figure includes all kids from prep to year 12. The junior school is completely separate to the middle school and the senior school, and the junior school is not large. The big influx of kids each year is in the first year of high school, and the vast majority of students are middle school and high school students.
Am just looking at the website now (googled St Peter's Lutheran College)! Wow! |

Bah - just lost a long post.
There are many excellent state, Catholic and Lutheran schools in Brisbane. For Montessori look at this private school at Fig Tree Pocket http://www.bms.qld.edu.au/ and Grovely State School https://grovelyss.eq.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx for small, alternative schools look at Brisbane Independent School http://www.bis.org.au/ and Buranda State School http://burandass.eq.edu.au/wcms/index.php/our-school Being Lutheran will not prevent you from enrolling in a Catholic School - depending on the school's policy you may be given preference over non-practising Catholics (friend's experience). |
