We are going to be moving down to Melbourne next year and i was looking at Werribee, is it a nice place to live? are there things to do there?
We both have work there so that's why i am looking at Werribee....

We will be renting so looking at $280-320 a week can that get you anything nice?

I have lived in Brisbane all my life so moving to Melbourne will be very strange at first but i am sure we will get use to it.

It is a long way from the city and public transport is not that great there. Can't help you with the cost of rent or with whether there are things to do, but it is on the fringes of the city, not close to any of the things you might usually think of when you think of Melbourne.

Does have a great zoo, though!

No I would not, but I am a bayside girl so perhaps my snobby ways are getting in the way of that. Personally I wouldn't live in the west.

Do you have work in Melbourne or Werribee? Werribee is along way from Melbourne.

I have family that have lived there and THEIR opinion is that it is pretty rough and full of low cost housing and the associated problems with those types of areas.

You don't have to live in Werribee to work there. You could try Williamstown, Altona, Yarraville, Newport, etc. These areas have much better public transport than Werribee, where it really really really really sucks. They're also a bit livelier, with a lot more going on (as far as I know, I don't live in the west).

I wouldn't live there myself, as I prefer to be a bit more amongst interesting things and people and places. But, I know many people who live there and love it. If you're moving there and renting, you can always move if it doesn't suit you.

Nope. Too suburban for me. I worked there for a while two years ago and have a few friends there. Like any big suburban area, there is good and bad parts. If I had to live there, I would live in Werribee South.

There are some lovely parts around werribee and some rough parts. I'd also look at point cook, truganina, some parts of hoppers crossing and wyndham vale. Feel free to pm me if you want specifics. We like this area.
You can definitely get something nice for that price, near new too. Williamstown/altona/newport is more expensive by far.

I wouldn't live in Werribee if I were you, but would look in Point Cook, Tarneit, Wyndham Vale, Manor Lakes, all are 5-15 minutes drive to werribee and you will find a modern 3-4 bedroom house in your price range there. You most likely will not find a hour in Williamstown or Newport in that budget, though they would be much nicer areas to live, and half way between Werribee and the city.

Werribee is around a 20 minutes drive (not in peak hours) to the city, or 40 minutes on the train. There is the zoo, cinemas, parks, bowling etc. There are a few cafes and restaurants and a semi decent shopping center there also. However, you will most likely want to travel to Williamstown, the city, outer city suburbs for more interesting things to do and far nicer meals.

There are no beachs at all near Werribee... though there is the bay in Altona, Williamstown and Werribee South, if you want a real beach it is around 1-1.5 hours drive down the great ocean road.

There are a huge selection of schools in the Werribee and surrounds areas if you have children.
