Our desktop is on the way out so I thought instead of replacing it, we'd use the laptop instead and I'd just get a tablet.

I play a few games that are available on both, but also a couple of games that are on facebook. I'm pretty sure I can't play these on the ipad, but does the Samsung have flash player?

I'd also like to use it for school (casual teacher) so I can put things up on interactive whiteboards. Do either of these connect well with smartboards?

I also sometimes watch catchup tv on the internet. Do either of the tablets stream well?

I know the ipads play music, but what about the Samsung? Can I use my itunes music on the Samsung? Does it transfer easily?

Also, how do I use the internet while I am away on holidays?

I haven't tried both, got the iPad for Xmas and it's all kinds of wonderful.

To use it when away from home, I set my iPhone as a personal hot spot and the wireless connection on the iPad picks it up, connects and I'm good to go.
It uses the mobile phones data plan though, so if you do a lot of graphics intensive things, or download a lot, you'd need a decent plan. I just use Facebook, check out some forums and do online banking.

We have both an iPad and Galaxy Tab 10.1. I prefer the Galaxy Tab.

I've used both, have an iPad but my son has the galaxy. I just find android unstable and less reliable. He is going to get an iPad mini next birthday and give the galaxy away.
You can stream from a pc/laptop onto both and you can add movies to both as well so really it's a matter of personal preference.

I hate tablets. For the life of me, I don't get how they got so popular!

The only thing they are good for is Internet browsing. Even emailing is cumbersome. Typing is a chore. At home, I only want to deal with a laptop!! I don't browse Internet in bed. And on rare occasions that I do, smartphone does the job.

I do use an Android and it crashes like there is no tomorrow.

Well, I love mine and I'm doing heaps more than browse the Internet, but that's also pretty cool on a tablet.
I gave up buying magazines years ago because of the amount of space they take up, now I can have as many as I want and they take up no space. And they are beautiful. Especially the Donna Hay ones.
Same with newspapers. The Age is so much easier to read on an iPad.
I've got the Kindle app, so I've loaded my latest Kindle book onto the iPad and if I find it comfortable for reading for long periods, i'll retire the Kindle.
I'm not much of a gamer but I've downloaded a couple of interesting ones to try out. They'd have to be more fun than on the iPhone.
I've checked out some TV series in the App Store and might buy some before my next trip away. Entertainment on the go.

I wish I'd got one ages ago, I am enjoying it so much, and finding so many uses for it.

I have an iPad and connect it to the whiteboard at school. It's not interactive via the board, but there is an app you can download that makes it interactive which I've been told works quite well. I haven't tried it cos I've found my class doesn't need it to be interactive specifically for things I've used it for. I do use it pretty much every day with my class though.

I know I can get kobo on the ipad, just not sure about Samsung.

iPads don't support flash but neither do the latest android tablets .... Last version of android to support flash was android 4.0 I think. Annoying because I really wanted a tablet that DD could play reading eggs on!

I recently got an iPad mini after weeks of android/iPad research. Each has pros and cons, so hard to choose .... But in the end iPad won out for me partially because it could sync with iTunes and my iPhone. Handy.

If you get a 3G tablet it'll connect to the internet anywhere, mine is wireless only, if I need Internet when out I use my iPhone as a wireless hotspot.

thanks tick. I have a feeling the Samsung is only wifi, so I'd need to buy a connector.
