I am starting uni this year and I was wondering if it better to go on Austudy for the start up payment as I have to pay for all of the fees myself (not eligible for HELP loans) its slightly less then PPS each fortnight though so it might not really be much different at the end of the day, just wondering what others have done, if you get austudy can you get education supplement? I would assume not?

You would probably be financially better on PPS and then applying for pensioner education supplement.

Definitely PPS.
You will miss out on the $1050 per semester scholarship that Austudy receives but being on PPS entitles you the the education entry payment, pensioner education supplement and also enables you to receive JET child care assistance which will dramatically decrease child care costs. Austudy is NOT an eligible payment for JET. |
