Thanks for the replies. I don't think I'm going to go ahead with this.

It depends, if you don't swap then you'll be paying for your own accomodation which would cost more than a few hundred dollars...

I don't think you can do a fair swap if you are going by days stayed there. You basically want a free holiday for a few days but don't want the other person to really benefit. You said so yourself it would be pointless to go unless it was at least 5 days. Simple don't do the swap or plan it so you stay longer at the other persons house.

If they stay 3-4 days at our place they'd be getting $1-2k+ worth of accommodation for free. So I wouldn't say they are having no benefit at all.

It's a difficult one as usually people are swapping their owner occupied homes so "loss of revenue" wouldn't really come into it.

Really though, if you have advertised your home on a house swap site, I wouldn't view it as the other party looking to get something for nothing - it is you that is wanting the shorter swap. Is there any scope for you using their property for a longer period?

Out of interest which site do you use? I am about tos tart researching a perth-London swap and could do with being directed to a good site!

Good luck!

Simple:

Their Stay $ - Your Stay $= What They Pay $

They will have to pay a difference.

Most people who want to house swap do it to avoid paying for accomodation. If I was the other party in this I'd probably jut choose someone else to swap with rather than paying extra.

Yeah I would not swap with you if it meant I had to pay extra.

Pay for your own accommodation - doesn't sound like you are cut out for accommodation swap.
