I know I should be probably be putting this in another thread somewhere but I'm posting here for more traffic.

Got a new iPhone today (4s) and I'm trying to backup my old phone in iTunes so I'm then able to transfer my apps etc onto the new phone.

Anyway I've recently downloaded the new iTunes and apart from the new layout which I'm not happy with I've been trying to back up the old phone manually but the new backup date (today) is not displaying. It's showing the last backup date which was months ago.

Tried backing up to both my computer and iCloud but still having the same prob.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I'm still trying to work out the new iTunes so any suggestios would be great.

HAve you recently synched the old phone? If not you need to do that first, then give it name, like My Old iPhone.

then when you hook up new phone to iTunes you should see an option to restore from My Old IPhone.

Wait, wait, wait, just reread your post, so synching the old phone is the problem?

Does it show up on the left sidebar under devices? I'm also getting used to the new iTunes layout, so it may have changed.

OK, checked mine.

Plug in old phone, open itunes then click FILE and one of the options is DEVICES, click that and your old phone should show up.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

OMG I think it has worked. Something so simple. I didn't even think to look under File. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

My DH is having my old iPhone. You wouldn't happen to know how to change the name of it in iTunes?

You could factory restore it, then first time he goes to sync it he could give it a new name.

Not sure how to do it otherwise. Perhaps again under DEVICES you might be able to edit the name?
