Random Monday topic ahead lol.

DH and i are planning on upgrading all our pots, pans, knives etc this year and we want to get really good ones. Ones that will stay good for years. Cost isn't all that important as we will more than likely be buying one or 2 things at a time so that it's not one massive cost at once. And we are quite happy to only have a couple of each (saucepans and fry pans) because we mainly eat a lot of salads etc due to the heat up here.

Need some recommendations please original.gif

I say buy the best you can afford. I bought my first Esteele frypan last week with a copper base and it's really nice.
I also have 2 of the Jamie Oliver for Tefal SS saucepans and I love them!
Now's a great time to look as the sales are still on.

My kitchen is perfect with a Thermomix and a set of Global knives.

We were going to buy some decent pots and pans this year as ours are 14 years old and seen better days. (They were fantastic in their day.) We just can't justify it though because we use them sometimes not even weekly. We also looked at selling and upgrading our Globals this year but saw nothing genuinely reduced in the after Christmas sales.

I agree that you should buy the best that you can afford.
My father paid $1200 for his pot and pan set 50 years ago which was a small mint back then and they are going strong now. They are Renaware but I don't think you can get them in Australia anymore.

Global knives, scanpan non stick.

We now have a decent collection because you can usually get scanpan on sale (Peter's eg), and that's what we've been given for Xmas and birthdays for the last billion years. Now we have most of my family using them and am working on MIL!

We used our wedding gift registry 18 months ago to upgrade all our kitchen things and I did quite a bit of research on different brands...

Global knives are great and they do a really good knife block set.

Esteele pots and pans are great (my mum has had them for years and I love my set).

I've used Scanpan in the past - they are great if you're looking for something with a non-stick surface.

Don't by anything from anywhere other than Peter's of Kensington. Even with end of year sales at Myer and DJs, Peter's is usually much much cheaper.

I'd go to a couple of kitchen specific places and poke/prod what they have. See what you like and why you like it.

Personally, I love my Essteele stainless steel (copper bases) set and have both Anolon and Baccarat knives. I wouldn't touch non-stick if you paid me and am not fussed with Global knives as they are too light for my liking. I like a knife with a bit of weight and balance to it.

If you can find one, a good sized steel wok is well worth the trouble of seasoning it. And I can't go past a santoku to add to the knife collection, even though it's not included in most block sets and has to be bought separately.

We bought saucepans when we first shifted into our first house 10 years ago. They cost about $120 for the set but omg they are still going strong. Yes they have been used to burn food etc,used to kill spiders so have a few dings on the edge. We were told go for something with a thick solid bottom on them. Which we did. 10 years and still going strong it has been the best purchase we have made yet.

The knives my DH wanted to upgrade to were a Japanese name which I can't recall. They are not sold in block sets either so this might be them. They are about $200-$300 each and he too said that he wanted knives better balanced than the Globals. The Globals have served us well though I must admit.

I know a lot of people love the Global knives, but I personally really, really dislike them. They just feel completely wrong in my hand.

I suggest you go to a kitchenware store (one the pros use) and get the feel for the different brands. I have messermeister knives and I adore them.......
