Right. Last year I asked EB whether I should try to meet people in my new home of Cairns, QLD and got a resounding "Yes!". I also got several suggestions along the lines of 'return to Melbourne', partly as the coffee is better, but also as my penchant for gay clubs is more easily fulfilled.
So, notwithstanding my regular trips down South (where I am just as happy to meet up for boot shopping, cocktails, and pretending I'm still under 30), I'd like to meet new people and maybe make a few friends in Cairns. So far, I am acquainted with a few workmates, several enormous cockroaches, and a spider called Unmentionable (due to her size - really, Queensland, who DOES spiders of that freakin size???), and I'd like to expand my horizons.
Without wanting to sound like an on-line dating agency... Here's a bit about me:
Moved to Cairns (Northern beaches) from Melbourne nearly two years ago. Am a 38 year old Mum to two (DD is nearly 2.5, DS is 4 months). Am just about to go back to work, and am counting down the minutes (I love my kids, but if I have to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar one more time my head will implode). I'm an animal loving, left wing (but not 'hippy' - a move to Kuranda is NOT on the cards), food, wine and coffee fan. I love sci fi, black humour, good books and bad movies. I speak my mind, even if the content is occasionally shallow and deranged due to sleep deprivation. My hobbies (travel, study, languages and some less savoury behaviours) have been curtailed by my delightful small children, but I do plan to return to them just as soon as the kids can legally be put in wet suits.
I'm looking to meet 'similar' people, even if just for coffee and gossiping (sadly, most of the meals DH and I consume are eaten in shifts, due to aforementioned small children). You don't have to have kids, so long as you can have a vague appreciation for why I am hysterically over tired and complaining about the lack of reputable plastic surgeons in Cairns. I come with a similarly minded DH, a new 4WD, and a wine fridge.
If anyone thinks they'd like to catch up, feel free to PM me, or add a response below.
I will occasionally 'bump' this thread up, so as to catch the eye of local people. Who knows, as Dylan Moran commented (when he played his comedy act here in 2011), "You people here in Cairns do have
one or two other things you could be doing..."
