we stayed at the mandalay apartments. Run by lovely people, on the beach, very family friendly, 2 x pools, tennis court.
15 min walk from the main street. No on-site restaurant/bar was a little disappointing, but turned out that meant it was quite quiet. We had booked a 2 b/r apartment, but ended up with a 3 b/r I don't know how old your kids are, but we had our 3 year old DD with us and did have to be a bit cautious about the balcony - she could reach the lock. website here |

Depends on price range but Peppers was fantastic we had 3 x 2 bedroom apartments for our wedding party it was incredible.
Also Cayman Villas have 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. My parents stayed there for our wedding. Also the Newport on Macrossan cheaper smaller but very central my brother and wife and 2 kids stayed there for our wedding. I have also stayed at the Sea Temple great apartmetns and amazing pool but too far out to walk but its so beautiful we didn't mind. Stayed at the Oaks lagoon great pool but beds so uncomfortable wont stay again, Mantra Portsea fantastic nice pool and apartments Mantra Aquaeous was ok swim out pool nice but not fabulous. Brother stayed at QT Resort formely Rydges 2 bed with a 13,11 and 10 yr old nice pool not far out but not walking distance either. Have stayed at a few others on Macrossan st but not worth mentioning s they were only 1 bedroom very small cheap great for a 1 nighter. HTH Oh yes Manadaly are lovely and very helpful. Stayed for a weekend around a year ago with the girls and was nice and close to beach. |

We stayed here:
http://www.rendezvoushotels.com/portdouglas/default-en.html It was brilliant - the main pool was so beautiful, the food was nice, and reasonable $, and it is a stop on the route for the shuttle buses into town. DS said he had more fun there than in Disneyland! He made lots of new little friends, as it is a real family resort. |

OP, for a pretty spectacular (if a little kitsch) pool, check out the Sea Temple at Port Douglas. It is not walking distance to town, however, but I believe there is a shuttle bus that goes in (about a 7 minute ride).
http://www.mirvachotels.com/pullman-port-d...mple-resort-spa And now, if you want to try and get a major discount on hiring a 3 bedroom villa at the Sea Temple, with it's own private plunge pool, try going through The Boutique Collection. They hire out privately owned villas/houses, and you can get substantial discounts. http://www.theboutiquecollection.com.au/search/ Sorry, you may have to do another search using the above link - seems to be a bit problematic. Hope you have fun! Edited for clarity. This post has been edited by KeepTheFaith: 09/01/2013, 12:10 PM |

Port is super quiet from now on. We are currently at the Mediteranian 3 br unit is great and a bargain. Pool is fantastic for kid lets, ours are 4,6 and 7 and we are about to hit it again. Short walk to 4 mile. Try latitude 16 for accom bookings, kerri is very good. They have lots of apartments.

Saltwater Apartments are lovely and right on the main street, near the beach.
It will be stinger season so beach swimming is limited to the stinger net. |

Depends on your budget, but the best pool at a resort that I have stayed in is the one at Peppers Port Douglas. It has a long beach area with white sand, and when we went in March was heated to a perfect temperature. 5 minute walk to the beach and main street (so no car needed). They have 1 bedroom suites which actually have a second bedroom with two daybeds.
Also have a look on stayz.com.au - many of the rooms there are privately owned and are rented out through Stayz. |

Stayed here in November and was fantastic. Great pool. Plenty of space in the rooms. Lovely area and an easy stroll to the beach. |
