We are travelling to Kuala lumpur later this year and were told by friends that it isn't safe for our little one to consume milk and other milk based products given concerns about Chinese milk.
Is this a legitimate concern? My little one doesn't drink toddler formula, but he loves his pre-nap milk! Should I be looking to take powdered milk with us? Grateful for any advice! Edited to fix typo This post has been edited by Bubs11: 09/01/2013, 07:48 PM |

Not sure.....don't know if I would trust it.
When we lived in Vietnam (for two years) I used Australian or New Zealand UHT milk for the entire time we lived there. I'm sure they would have the same in KL as its way more modern than Vietnam. |

The milk is fine to use. The supermarkets are just like ours.
Have fun over there I love it. Great shoe shopping. This post has been edited by takingitback: 09/01/2013, 07:56 PM |

I used to live in KL...my memory is a bit hazy now, but you shouldn't have too much problem getting a selection of "nice" milk in the more expatty supermarkets. Where will you be staying? If you're close to a mall, you will probably be able to find something in there, as most of them have a store in them (usually ground floor).
You could always take powdered as a back up though if you're concerned. |

Thanks all for the quick replies! We are staying right near the petronas towers and I think that there is a walkway from the hotel to the klcc shopping mall so will have a look there when we arrive.
Thank you! |

I was in Malaysia on the weekend. We were able to buy small cartons of milk at convenience stores. They came with a straw so DD could drink them and we also used it in our tea and coffee - it was fine.

We've always drunk milk in Malaysia. There's a great western supermarket on the bottom floor of the Pavillion shopping centre if you get stuck.

We've never had an issue with milk there. If you buy it from a supermarket and it's pasteurised it should be safe. I think the issue in China was that the milk had melamine mixed in. I don't believe there has been any such scandal in Malaysia and I know that they have banned Chinese milk based products in the past.
Have fun! |

Nope not true, there are plenty of milk products over there that aren't from China, you can get australian, japanese and malaysian branded milks in pretty much every supermarket.
If you get things such as 3-in-1 drink powders you can check for place of manufacture, though a good chunk of those are made in malaysia and singapore. |

Admittedly a VERY expatty supermarket, but nearly all dairy stocked in BIG is from Australia.
