Hi all,

Is ikea furniture made from wood or melamine?

I would like to get some furniture that is white wood and will be travelling to Sydney to get it but I don't want to bother with ikea if it is all melamine.

They have both. Look at the website, it will be in the product details.

The vast majority of their white stuff is chipboard.

Only a ginger can call a ginger a ginger!
Don't bother. I bought some stuff there last year, nearly all of it was rubbish. The only pieces that are ok are the Trofast storage systems (it's melamine).

They have a few solid pine items which you could paint.

Depends what you're purchasing in white. The product description will tell you.

The Hemnes range has two shades of white, one which is solid wood (not sure what type). A lot of the cheaper stuff isn't and thus doesn't travel well....
