Hi all,
We are considering going to the USA with our dd who is 12 months now... Just wondering what is the easiest way to get around once there... Eg how do you get taxis when dd needs a car seat, do you take one from home or hire?? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks |

How long are you going for?
We just bought one over there and left it at a charity place. However we also bought a car that we sold on consignment. |

We had a Bugagoo with a Maxi-Cosi car seat that could go straight into the car, with a seat belt around to secure.
I think there are cheaper options these days. |

Car seats are sooo cheap over there. We bought two from Target, they were $15 and $30. We hired a car, but when we needed transfers I booked a private one that included car seats.

Thanks for you replies! We would probably be there for a few weeks max... Probably stopping at a few different places for a few days.... Not a fan of hiring a car whilst there- more likely to take public transport but the idea of a private transfer is fantastic! Thanks!! I feel like I can run with that idea and get serious about deciding where we might go!

Not sure how far you are travelling within the states but we loved Amtrak rail system. We went when DS was 9 months old for a month - flew into NYC and then Amtrakked NYC - Washington - Reading - Pittsburgh - Niagara - NYC. We then flew to Vegas.
We used lots of public transport plus taxis, it was fine. |

We did except for in NYC - we walked most of the time we were there but took a couple of cab rides without a car seat when we hailed one on the side of the road at the last minute. Not ideal obviously, I was pretty anxious but it was fine. By that stage we'd already taken DS on the hop on hop off buses all over the city without a car seat.
There is no way we could have transported a car seat with us - the flights would have been fine - it was the rest of the time it wouldn't have possible. Three suitcases, hand luggage, baby bag, pram and of course the baby was more than enough to cart! |
