Were Looking in to adopting a dog:) YAY the time is finally right..
The dog that has caught my eye is a little Maltese. He has 3 legs. 1 was amputated as he was born without major bones or something..He has never had use of the leg. So what I want to know is. Do these guys have any limits or is everything the same as if they had 4 legs.. Just want to know if there is anything i need to look out for ect:) |

I have never had a three legged dog, but I used to go to herding training and trials with a three legged Rottweiler. She lost her leg to cancer at age 10 and her owner decided to give her a new interest.....herding sheep. Now herding for trials involves a lot of quick movements, tight turns, sprinting fast and stalking stealthily. It involves the dog being very in tune with the handler and showing restraint on the sheep. And the three legged Rotti was amazing. And gained herding titles as easily as my four legged girl did.

My last dog had three legs (amputated due to cancer). The only thing I had to watch for really was that she didn't put on excess weight and increase her chances of arthritis in her good legs. It did slow her down a bit (and she could no longer jump on the couch which wasn't a bad thing), but I imagine that won't be an issue with a dog who has never had the use of that leg. She did sit a bit weirdly too in order to balance. She competed in obedience trials on 3 legs - it improved her out of sight stays tremendously LOL.
