Quick question for those of you who have been. DD will be 4 in October. We are thinking of going to Fiji in June. I note a lot of the kids clubs quote 4-12 years as being the age group.

1. Do they check the passports to verify age of the kids when you enrol them in the kids club (ie. could we put DD in even though she will be just shy of 4)? Or, do they accept kids that are a little outside the age group specified?

2. If not, does that mean there will be no activities she can participate in unless we book a nanny for her?

Pretty sure Treasure Island is from age 3 (or that it was), if that is an option.

You would normally have to provide birthdate of kids when booking your accommodation; but I don't imagine they are then also going to check every child when you book in to the kids club. But I don't think you will be able to rely on that, so you have to expect that you may need to budget for a nanny or look after your child yourself.

Where are you looking at staying? My experience has been that on the Islands it is a bit more discretionary - talk to the coordinator and they may well let her in. At the big hotels in Denaru it is very formal, more like daycare here and unlikely to bend the rules - our nearly 4 year olds weren't allowed in at all at one place.

Babysitting is only a couple of dollars an hour if you do have to pay for it - we'll worth it!

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at the Shangri La (based on recommendation from a Fijian colleague of DH's). Would consider other options at this point though. Pretty much looking for somewhere that is eat, stay and play free for her if we can manage it and also recommendations from people who have been places with similar aged children. Don't mind paying for a nanny, but thought she would enjoy some time in a kids club too. Not looking at putting her anywhere (Nanny or kids club) for the entire stay, but just a little "adventure" for her perhaps 3 days or so during a ten day stay.

We stayed at the Naviti and the kids club was pretty rough with such a big age range. I wasn't happy to leave my 4yr old there are watching for a bit. We got a nanny - had the same lady for the entire holiday.

At the Shangi - La and I think most other resorts those under kids club age can still attend with an adult or a nanny, so if it is the activities you want for her that will be fine.

We have just booked into the Warwick later in the year. It's kids club is from age 3 and it looks similar to the Shangri La in that there is no need to leave the resort.

We probably would have gone back to the Shangri La if we could afford it though cause we loved it!

We stayed at the shangri la when DS2 was 3.
If there was an activity that we thought both our children would like, eg. fish feeding, t shirt art etc. then we attended with them.
We did hire a nanny twice, you can request the same lady.
She took them to the Kids Club playground and the restaurant for lunch and another night took them to dinner and the games room/movie night.
To answer your original qu's, no one checked the ages of our children on passports. You sign your child in and out.
Your DD will be able to participate in all of the activities but will need to be accompanied by you or a nanny.
As a PP said, I wouldn't leave a young, single child there but would have felt comfortable leaving my 2 children there together if DS2 had of been old enough.
