 Blood test request, do they 'expire'? |

Hi, just wondering if someone could help here.
About 6 weeks ago I got a bloot test request from from my GP to have my thyroid and iron checked. I couldn't do the test after my appointment because I had to go to work. Anyway, got home put the request form 'in a safe place' and got on with things. It was not long before christmas and I was doing extra shifts at work, CHristmas/New Year chaos and school holidays and just totally forgot about it. Couldn't remember where I put the form and weeks went by. I have now found the form again but wonder if it's too late? Does anyone know if I will have to go back to the GP and request a new one? Or will they accept this one even though it was written out over a month ago? Anni xx |

From my experience, they expire after about 6 months, then you have to get a new one.

It will be fine after one month - we have people on care plans and they get a lab form at appt to have bloods done prior to next review in 6 months time

I have done this so many times, and never had any trouble. My specialist would even write up a form for tests before my next appt (usually in three months), and I'd toddle off to get the tests a couple of days before the appt, with no problems.

My mother does that often, usually she'll get blood requests and might get around to getting it done about 4-5 months later lol. So you shouldn't have any issues

They are valid for 12 months from the date they were done !

It'll be fine to use.
My endocrinologist gives me a blood test request form at the end of the consultation to use before I see him again in three months. |
