Hi there

My 3 month old DS constantly wants to sleep on his tummy. He has been rolling over (both ways) for a couple of weeks now. I always wrap him for his sleeps and put him to bed on his back. Almost every
time I check on him during the day or night, he is soundly sleeping on his tummy.

What should I do? Do I leave him on his tummy or disturb him, re-wrap and re-settle on his back? I understand that he is rolling over quite early and I'm concerned about SIDS risk as he is still quite young.

Anyone else had this experience? What did you do?

I thought the sids risk went down if they can roll both ways and easily move their head to be able to breath properly? Some one might be able to help?

Do you have a Baby Clinic / Early Childhood Clinic near you ??

Is there somewhere you can go and ask a MCN about this ??

Like the PP - I had read that if the baby can roll over in his sleep - as long as he can roll back - it's not a big issue.

If you are really worried about it - I would get a baby monitor thingy to reassure yourself.

I let mine sleep on their tummies when they could get over and back themselves.

There was a time when they could roll onto their tummies, but not roll back and would therefore get distressed. I used to put them in a long sleeping bag, and tuck the bottom of the bag down tightly under the cot mattress at the end of the cot, so they could roll on to their side, but no further iykwim.

But when they could move freely from back to frong and back again, I left them to it.

Yes agree with Freddies mum, I have a monitor with movement sensors. It put my mind at ease so much. I know it works too because whenever I or dh for get to turn it off it's beeping like crazv within a minute.

If he can roll himself back onto his back I wouldn't worry too much. I think there are some products you can buy that stop them rolling over that were around when my oldest was a baby, but I am not 100% convinced as to their safety TBH. I never had a monitor at all, but maybe in this situation it might be worth it?

DS has been a tummy sleeper since around 3 weeks. I HATED it, but it was the only way he would settle. Seeing as how your baby is rolling both ways, I wouldn't be too concerned TBH.

I looked at the positioners when ds started to roll. The sids website said they are a sids risk themselves. What jemstar posted looked relly good though.

Yeah, the sleep positioners that were around when my older kids were babies that rede almost like rolled up towels or wedges I was always wary of. I reckon the safe-t-sleep thing looks pretty good though. OP maybe post another thread and see if anyone has any comments about the product?

Jemstar, I'll look into the Safe-T-Sleep because, although he's really good at rolling from back to tummy, he isn't as consistently good with rolling the other way. I'll post another thread seeking people's comments on this product.
