Just interested as in a post in another topic people commented frozen vegetables was not their preference.

Just wondering in what people think? Are frozen vegetables not good to eat as they always say they are "snap frozen" to ensure the goodness.

I know fresh is best but just wondered what you all thought.

If frozen does it depend on the brand/quality of frozen vegetables?

I admit to keeping some on hand in the event I run out.

Frozen is supposed to be better because they are snap frozen shortly after picking, whereas fresh veges could be sitting in storage and losing vitamins and minerals by being exposed to light. Unless you are growing them yourself, and picking them for use as you need them.

I personally dont like frozen vegetables. Peas are OK. But beans, carrots etc are too watery for me.

In many cases frozen can retain more vitamins and minerals than fresh.

Fresh may not always be as "fresh" as you think. If they are picked straight from your own garden, of course their nutrient value is superior, but if they were picked a week ago and made their way through various temperature differences whilst being transported to your local shop, then no, they are not better than frozen.

I also prefer fresh straight out of the garden. The taste difference between them and frozen or store bought is incredible. There is nothing like fresh if it is well and truly fresh.

This. Can't stand frozen veg, but they are supposed to be better than not-so-fresh fresh veggies that you buy...

I buy both, I do find some brands got a bit watery and are not nice taste wise when frozen. I use them mostly in stirfrys alot and can't really tell the difference. If I steam them I add some garlic to them, or some lemon pepper or some chilli etc. Shock horror I have even done this to the canned beans that we use camping when I ran short a while ago and had no back up beans in the fridge.

When you are talking about quantity to do a stir fry for a family you could spend $3.98 on a large packet of frozen veg I wouldn't be able to buy the same amount that cost for the variety even at my local fruit and veg shop which has makrs down to 99cents - but I don't fancy a pumpkin and turnip stir fry's Tounge1.gif

I basically buy a few bags every few months and use them as needed when needed. It is always great to have them in the freezer as back up.

I agree that frozen vegetables can be fresher than fresh. For me both types have their place and I always have frozen peas, corn and spinach (among others) for when I need to save time or have run out of fresh.

I really should start my vegetable patch.

I think frozen veg are very handy and probably better for you in terms of nutrition - but I just don't think they taste as good as fresh.
Except for frozen peas, they are great.

What fresh hell is this?
I prefer frozen peas because th peas at our local greengrocer are too old and expensive. Don't mind frozen corn, but other veg I'd prefer fresh.

Having said that it, I'm fortunate that I can afford fresh veg but it came to a choice between frozen veg and no veg, then I'd happily eat frozen veg.
