Hi,

My DS is 8 turning 9 and I was wondering if anyone else had seen or noticed any changes in their sons recently (behavioural/emotional).

Everyone around me is telling me DS is hormonal and that he is just "growing up" becoming a preteen etc, but i didnt realise boys changed so early on.

He has had a growth spurt over the Christmas break, not a massive one, but noticeable, and i know when this happens there is usually a testosterone boost aswell, unfortunately though, what we are experiencing with him started well before Christmas and is STILL going.

We are constantly at logger heads and im close to tears because the vibe in my house at the moment is full of tension.

I dont know what to do or how to handle him at the moment.

You know I got really excited when I saw your thread title, because I thought you were looking to BUY a nearly 9yo. I decided after this morning's performance, mine is going on eBay.

Sorry no advice, though it does appear to be normal! You have my sympathy.

LOL @ The Old Bag's reply! If it helps, I think my youngest is much more settled and sensible this year than he was last year. 8-9yo was a difficult time for us. I don't recall it being so much of an issue with my eldest, he was actually probably more painful at 11!

Did you find their behaviours, attitudes and emotions were more directed at you when you were dealing with them as opposed to anyone else.

Yep mine are 15 and 13 but at 8 there was definately a change they start to get hormonal and it comes in troughs and peaks. 10 is horrible and 14ish isn't pleasant either lol

My younger one is definitely a lot more difficult at the 8-9yr old age. Her sister was nowhere near this bad.

Couldn't agree more,particularly DS who has just turned 14. He alternates between being helpful and fun to be with and being rude, defiant and sneaky. Compared to this age, all others have been a breeze.
