I would like to see about buying a gadget that means I can easily obtain books electronically, there seems to be more way to access books than there is books so I am at a loss as to where to start, we are not really into gadgets and do not have an Iphone etc. but I know I can borrow electronic books from my library and I use Amazon and Book Depository to buy normal books sometimes. Obviously as I a typing this I have access to a computer but what is the most simple way of using and accessing books through an electronic "Ereader" type machine.
I would not like to spend more than a couple of hundred to buy one. Thanks |

Thanks for your replies, one thing I forgot to ask is with whatever machine you use is it easy to access books form different sources as I don't want to be tied to one provider, EXAMPLE ONLY if you have a Kindle I don't want to just be able to get books from Amazon kind of thing.

I got a Kindle for Christmas and I am in LOVE! I am very un-techy but I find this so simple it is ridiculous.
As for getting books from other sources, I have no idea. I just use Amazon and I am finding this fine for my needs so far. |

I love my Sony EReader, almost the same as reading.a real book, and not locked into service provider.

After a fair bit of research, I am waiting for the Kindle Paperwhite to come out in Australia. It's currently selling in the US.
It's a touch screen, much like the Kindle Touch, but it has a built in light so you can read it in low light and the dark without one of those clip on lights. I think it also adjusts to light conditions. It will probably be expensive but have heard that people have bought direct from the US through a shipping agent, which saves a lot of money. Plus, the Kindle Touch is sold out almost everywhere in Australia. |

I just bought myself a Kobo 'Glo', which has a backlight so you can read in low-light conditions. It is my first gadget, and I absolutely LOVE it. It was released in December, and was $160.
I chose Kobo rather than Kindle so I could borrow books from the library, which is restricted on the Kindle devices. Getting the books on to the reader is not too hard - though you can't purchase through Amazon, which is a bit of a hassle. Use of the library makes it worth it for me. If you find yourself away from a pc, you can purchase books directly from the Kobo store on the reader, but you do need to be in a wifi spot. I am so, so happy I waited for the Glo - it has been a lifechanger! |
