We are gonna have a 6 pack!!!!
Hi all my 9 yr old daughter ( turned 9 the week before Xmas) is looking a little portly.
She always been one to eat a lot but its only now that she's getting chubby.
We haven't drawn attention to it and we plan to start walking to and from school again and I've cut down snacks except for fruit for everyone so doesn't feel targeted.
She doesn't play video games and is very active.
I'm just wondering if anyone else's little girl has gone through this?
Ad any suggestions anyone has to help

Does she play any sports?

Would your budget/ schedule allow you to get her into something like little athletics, or soccer or something else she may enjoy?

Before you make any big decisions keep a diary of what she eats (secretly of course!). Then add up the calories and see where it is coming from. Good place to start.

Soft drinks or juice in her diet?
Junk in your cupboards that she could be sneaking?

Mirror, mirror, shiny glass, tell me that is NOT my ass!!
Every child that I have known at the age always go a bit chubby about 1 or 2 years before they hit puberty!

So I wouldn't worry about it if most of her meals are healthy!

is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?
Is she due a growth spurt? All DD1's friends went skinny-pudgy-skinny at around 8-9yo.

Sounds like my 11 yo a year and a half ago.

She has shot up over the last six months and is now swimming in some of the clothes that were ight on her last summer.

Her diet may have changed slightly over the year. We don't get as much take away as we did before and I only send water to drink to school now.

She used to do calethentics out due to budget and blowing my car up I couldn't get her to the practices 2xs a week but she still does all her exercises and is very flexible.
She rides her bike and runs A LOT she's always racing her 10 yr old brother and she jumps on the trampoline for hours at a time.
Is almost hyperactive laughing2.gif

No snacks like chips etc because both hubby and I are changing our whole lifestyle to lose weight ( I'm pregnant so can't lose any till bub is born)
So only fruits and veggies on offer.

Definitely no soft drinks and juice only occasionally and has always been that way.

Ill keep a diary and see if there is any clues there.

As you can imagine we are being very careful not to mention it in front of her or the othe kids as I hate for her to get a bad body image becaus she has some puppy fat.

I have noticed she is outgrowing her dresses length wise, we bought her a heap at the start of summer and they are now too short.

Daddy suggested she might like to help him walk the dogs of an evening and she thought that was great and loves her daddy/daughter time original.gif

Thanks for the replies original.gif

No more room at the inn
Had this happen with dd1 she had a major growth spurt in year 5. Dd3 doing the same thing right now. My mum has not helped with her stupid comments. My kids end up being 5ft10 shown with dd1 and 2 so far.

I think it sounds like you are doing everything right, and it is probably natural pre-puberty puppy fat

Well I'm gla you posted this because I have been worried about my 9 and 3/4 DD. She is almost as tall as me,(im only 160cm she'd have to be 151-153cms) and weighs 50kg.
Ive had to start her wearing little bonds bralette tops as she has little boobies!!
But her Dads side are all very very tall and my side is very very short so I am thinking maybe shes going to take after her father and be taller (yay biggrin.gif) and to have a massive growth spurt.
She currently weighs 50kg and is in ladies sz8
