Looking at getting one shortly, they are fairly expensive so I thought I'd get some feedback on them first. The local House store has a range of KitchenAid appliances and we went there tonight to have a look but they didn't have the food processor. The other appliances are lovely quality though.

The good? The bad? Any extras I should consider?

I have one, I don't use it a lot but it is quite, works well, easy to clean. It came with 3 different sized bowls and various blades.
It is darn heavy though, once my kitchen is finally finished it will have a permanent place on the bench alongside Big Bertha my KA mixer.

I have a food blog.
I had one and it broke down after about 6 months. Perhaps my experience is different to the norm and it obviously wasn't a positive one, so it's not surprising that I don't recommend it.

It broke whilst I was slicing onions. It just jammed, blew the motor and stopped working. I was very disappointed.

They say that Magimix is the best brand for food processors, though I don't have experience with them.

I now have a thermomix and it's definitely more powerful and the metal bowl is a lot better than the plastic (which scratched and scuffed up easily), though you can't slice with it which is a bummer.

Thanks for that, I don't want to just hear glowing reports, I want to hear the bad as well as the good.

I tried to look up Thermomix online but it seems you can only buy one by party plan, which I definitely do NOT want to do, and I don't really get the whole concept anyway. It say it cooks, but I can't see how? Are you able to explain it?

The thermomix is also in a completely different price bracket - so it's not really fair to compare. There are about a gazillion threads on EB about the Thermomix with lots of information about them. It cooks because it has an inbuilt heating function up to a bit over boiling point.

Reviews of the KA food processor are pretty mixed. At that price, I'd probably buy a different brand.

And what credence says about the TMX. It is possible to buy without a demo if you get insistent enough with the demonstrator.

We've got the KA food processor. It's worked fine for me so far. It's certainly heavy as a PPer said. The blades are unbelievably sharp - I was using a silicon spatula to clean down the sides and the blade actually cut a bit off the end of the spatula - you have to be VERY careful when cleaning.

If you are looking to spend that kind of $$$ on a food processor, check out the magimix's too. We've had one for four years, three different bowls, lots of slicing and grating attachments, a real work horse. Also made in France. Petersof Kensington normally has them at pretty good prices.

If possible, I would keep saving up for a thermomix. I would maybe use my food processor once a week but I use my thermomix 2-3 times a day.

I have one.
I was looking at this or the Magimix and found in my research mixed reviews for both of them.
I ended up with the KA because it matched my mixer and blender.

I've been trying to find out how a Thermomix works, I watched some Youtube videos and Alvin (Masterchef contestant from a couple of years ago) was using one to mix some stuff. And in a Masterchef segment Darren Purchase described one as a "high-powered blender" but I take it that it's more than that.
What exactly can you cook in it?
