I just read on brisbanetimes.com.au that Campbell Newman will be making an announcement tomorrow as to whether to postpone the back to school date.

Has anyone else heard anymore about this???

thanks

Nope, just that. I guess he's waiting to see how bad the damage is.

The Preeclampsia police. Check your BP today!
I'm a principal and I only heard about it via the news conference.

I think, if they do this, it will only be in badly affected areas: e.g. Gympie, Bundaberg, Bargara etc. I would say most schools in Queensland will open as usual on Tuesday. Best thing is to stay tuned to the news and check Education Queensland's website tomorrow afternoon.

Schools are only closed in dangerous situations. The weather is expected to improve in SEQ tomorrow afternoon.

I think it will end only being for school and ares that sustained damage. It wont really be known until the system passes and we know what damage has been done. That wont be known until tomorrow.

For now assume no change.

Actually just go with what Jerry said, she is the wise one on these matters

I barely survived yesterday & its already today!
My nephew is flooded in (the coast off bundaberg). When we were up there last, the flood waters subsided as quickly as they rose, but MIL said the Burnett is still rising, so not looking good. DH birth town is being evacuated.

I'm guessing there'll be lots of kids who won't be able to get to school, literally.

It had better only be school in badly affected areas.

Seriously Newman, sack all the people you want but don't you dare extend school holidays! Parents will be rioting in the streets.

Just keep up with whatever EQ puts out on their website; I'm sure it will only be in badly impacted areas where there is severe weather or the schools are actually damaged.

I'm sure Newman won't allow me to slack off on our first day back. Got to get his $$$$ worth from us. (or maybe a good way for him to save wages and not pay EQ staff for the day!)

I'm sure I'll be back with a school full on Tuesday.

When I mentioned to the kids that school may be flooded and they may not be able to go back on Tuesday, DD who is starting her FYOS suggested we fill some buckets with water and take them down to school to make sure it floods! It is going to be a long year.
