Hi, I am wanting to buy a sling for a friend, we are both clueless.

Can you tell me:

Which sling you love and why?

Which slings are hopeless and why?

The Caboo Close carrier is fabulous.
Can be used from Newborn upwards without extra inserts like the Ergo needs
Is 'semi-structured' so you don't have to wrap and tie multiple times like the Hugabub
Holds the baby's bum and hips in the recommended position unlike the Baby-bjorn
Baby can face in and face out
Is organic cotton so breathes
Very neutral colours so isn't overly feminine like some slings so Dh loves it too!

Having said all this - I plan on buying a Manduca or Ergo in future so I can keep wearing DS into toddlerhood

I love my ergo carrier but I did find it fiddly with a newborn. A friend has a hug a bub and loves it. I think we will be buying one soon.
Era when I say soon I mean for next bub.

Hug a bub, hands down in this house. I got dressed in the morning and always put it on over the top straight away - it went everywhere with me!

We have a Boba (a soft structured carrier) and I didn't use it for long as I found it dug in to me once DS weighed a little more. I wish I had kept using the bug a bub for longer so DS was happy to be in it for longer (if that makes sense ).

Beco or a manduca. They can be used for far longer than the hug a bub and are really comfy front or back. They are awesome.

Ergos, Becos and Hugabubs are all great, but they aren't slings.

I really enjoyed using the Bubba Moe sling - was soft and padded in the shoulder and adjustable. DD slept well in it and its still lovely to carry her joey-style at 7 months.

I love my Natibaby ring sling - super quick, versatile & easy to take anywhere with me.

For a carrier, I love my AngelPack - it's like an Ergo, soft-structured. Also quite easy to take with me, but a bit more effort to get on.

I had no problems tying the hug-a-bub, but found it a bit warm, as I had 2 winter babies, and was always quite rugged up already.

I used a sleepy wrap and DD used to drop off to sleep and sleep comfortably as soon as I put her in there. She was snug, warm and comfortable.

She is, however, a very independant child and hasn't wanted to be in any type of carrier from 4 months onwards. Neither has she allowed me to hold her to feed, hold her bottle, cuddle her to sleep etc - she's just like her big sister so probably a huge exception to the rule.

I used a Bubba Moe sling for all my 3 as newborns. Loved it. DD still fits in for short trips at 8 months. http://www.bubbamoe.com.au/

I also have an Ergo (yes, not a sling), but didn't use it until DD was around 5 months. I couldn't get the hang of it with a newborn.

Close baby carrier. Used from birth to 14mths (I fell pregnant then so stopped wearing.) It's like a hugabub but no tying needed, just slip it on.
