I have a block that is kept behind my coffee machine, out of reach of any littlies that may visit. My two are old enough to know not to touch them without supervision.
I have Wustoff ones and have just had two replaced under warranty as the handles,started to peel and chip. We never put them in the dishwasher and they are always hand washed and dried.
Invest in a good sharpener or get them professionally sharpened aver few minths depending on use.
