You must feel so relieved to finally have an answer. Sadly parents are so often blamed for the symptoms their children with ASD express. I have a 7yo with Aspergers. He has been doing speech therapy for two years to help him understand the nuances of language and to learn some ways to appropriately respond to others.
He has recently started seeing a psychologist who specialises in Aspergers syndrome. He loves it. His visits to her allow him to just spill out everything he needs to say, and she gets him. She just knows what it is he needs and can help him. It's been fantastic for him. I think it's the validation she gives him, that he's just ok the way he is, makes him feel so much more understood and less, different. These are the only two professionals DS sees but they are both very important to him right now. |

My daughter has only recently been diagnosed with ASD, so first of all let me say that I know how hard it is to start telling people, and how overwhelming it is to start thinking about what to do next.
As a newbie to the world of ASD, I can tell you that this forum has already been an excellent source of support for me. There are many wonderful parents here, who are incredibly generous with their advice, and who will be prepared to help you in any way they can. I'm sure there will be some seasoned voices getting ready to chime in and offer you the benefit of their experience. Good luck =) |
