first day back for DS1 today...
as a parent i am really happy about his teacher, class grading (2/3 with him in year 3, he always needs to be the higher grade in a composite class). He has several boys he liked to play with last year in his class, and 2 children who i REALLY didn't want in his class (they set him off and clash a lot) are not in with him. He was great going in to school, fine getting his class placement list, ok dropping his brother to his class, and then we left the building he was in last year to go over to his class which is in a new building he hasn't been in before! He started to cling going over there and chewing on his hat string... then he got in to his class and completely lost it trying to unpack... tears, unable to move, unable to talk i was able to finally bring him back down to being able to move around after i had unpacked for him and his teacher reassigned his desk to a desk that had another boy he knows from his previous school who was also upset about change (new to this school) so she could give them both extra attention at the same table. I left him sitting on the mat, he had settled from crying but was still non-verbal... I really hope he settled ok during the day... i won't know until i pick him up from OSHC tonight, and probably more so tomorrow when i speak to his teacher in the morning... i know it could of gone much worse but i hate seeing him distressed! |
