DD is 10, going on 11, and in year 5. Mathis has never been her strong point, but as things get more in depth as she gets older, she is falling further behind. Her teachers have been great with helping her, but there is only so much they can go with 25 other kids needing help too.
I'm looking into getting her some tutoring, hoping that a little one on one help will help her from falling further behind, or best case scenario, catching up to other kids in her year.
She is much stronger in her English, and is currently tracking about 2-3 years above her current age, so not being able to 'get' Maths is really starting to get to her.
Any ideas where I would go about looking? We live regionally, about 5 hours from a capital city, which somewhat limits my options

I would be inclined to approach the principal of the local high school, and ask whether or not any Yr 11 or 12 students who were doing well at Maths would be interested in tutoring her.

Is there a regional university campus near you? When I was a tutor, I used to get a lot of tutoring work through an agency run by the university.

Hmmm I just remembered our local uni has branched out from health subjects and now includes education. Might ring them, or post online. Thanks!

Would any of the teachers do it after school?

We had teachers from dd's school tutor her (not her class teacher) and it worked brilliantly as they could liaise with her class teacher and find out what they are working on at the time and what was coming up.
We paid $35 for 45 mins

Some teachers meet the kids at our local library or go to the kids homes.
I had a meeting after school once on tutoring day and dd went to the teachers class room.

A few of the teachers at my school are more than happy to provide tutoring after school too, so I would ask at your school. They do it straight after school so it makes it easy already being there. That would be my first option.

There's a sliding scale based on the level of expertise and experience of the tutor, and the year level of your child. It may also cost you more if the tutor has to travel far to get to you. If you do get one through the uni, you may find that they set the prices rather than the individual tutors, and that will be a bit cheaper for you, so I would start there.
